Alone Against The Sea
Documentary (60 min.)

What compels certain people to leave the comforts of ordinary life, to face certain danger, to sail around the world- alone? Most of us think of sailing as a team sport needing crews of a dozen or more sailors, perhaps best exemplified by the America's Cup or the Whitbread races. As sharp contrast, in solo racing one usually exhausted individual must do everything needed on the boat by themselves. Recently, due to advances in modern video technology, it has also become possible for these lonely adventurers to record their journeys and the dramatic, life-threatening critical moments they experience. Alone Against the Sea tells the stories of five such sailors from different countries through this special footage from the "Around Alone" races, each a 27,000 mile journey: i) a boat rolls 360 degrees and capsizes, ii) amazing self-surgery at sea, iii) a boat runs aground after the sailor falls asleep, iv) a sailor disappears without trace, v) and the rescue of a fellow competitor.
