A profile of filmmaker Ken Burns, shot in and around Walpole, New Hampshire, the historic small town where he lives and works. Through clips and interviews, we learn about Burns's approach to history filmmaking, writing, story telling and social history, both in general and in regards to Jazz, a series that took 6 years to make. Clips from his earliest films are included, as well as from Jazz, Baseball, Frank Lloyd Wright and The Civil War.
We also learn of an early inspiration that led him to specialize in history and to the production of The Civil War series: the sight of a lone gravestone, obscured by undergrowth, deep in the woods on the side of a New Hampshire road, and the overwhelming desire to learn the story of the man buried beneath.

A BBC production.
