Angle of Inspiration:
Santiago Calatrava's Sundial Bridge
Documentary (26 min.)

On July 4th, 2004 when the Sundial Bridge opened to the public, thousands of people crossed the Sacramento River. The multitude of local luminaries, curious tourists, and skeptics-turned-art-lovers walking across Santiago Calatrava's sweeping glass-decked span provides the climactic scene in this award-winning documentary. Like many grand works of public art, the Sundial Bridge has generated both awe and controversy. The film documents the process of turning a world-class architect's vision into a concrete, glass and steel structure, and also the process by which the bridge has become the new center of town: by connecting the two sides of the river, and by stirring the passions of every resident.
An interview with Calatrava tells his story in his own words. Other works by Calatrava, from Ground Zero to Athens, are included, as well as historic footage of great and controversial public works, like the Golden Gate and Brooklyn Bridges.
