Blue Water Hunters
Documentary (55 min.)

This stunning documentary follows divers who travel to the magical islands of the South Pacific, the coast of Baja, Mexico and Costa Rica in search of giant tuna one hundred feet below the ocean’s surface. Exotic underwater photography accents this story of "free diving", a 40-year-old sport in which divers’ oxygen supplies come only from air they can hold in their lungs. Champion spear fisherman Terry Maas, provides a visual account of his experiences as not only hunter but prey, in waters frequented by friendly manta rays, playful seals and hungry reef sharks. The program includes black and white footage from 40 years ago, shot by pioneer undersea photographer Lamar Boren and offers a comparison to the past. Once an abundant undersea world of creatures, today the sport is threatened by over fishing and toxic dumping.
