Who Owns The Past ?
Documentary (56 min.)

Who Owns The Past? is an hour-long documentary film that tells the dramatic story of the struggle for control over the ancestral remains of American Indians. By examining the conflicting worldviews of scientists and the American Indians over the control and disposition of hundreds of thousands of remains found in North America, Who Owns The Past? tells this powerful story in an entertaining and informative style.
From 1620, when the Pilgrims first excavated an Indian burial mound on Cape Cod to today’s battle in the Pacific Northwest over the 9,200 year old remains known as "Kennewick Man," American Indians have struggled to control their ancestral remains. With the Kennewick Man now being claimed "Caucasoid" by non-Indians, American Indians are now fighting to maintain their identity as the "First Americans."
