Wolf:
An Ancient Spirit Returns |
|

Thousands
of years ago, wolves were our hunting partners and protectors, but over
the past few centuries, the wolf’s habitat shrank and prey dwindled.
Wolves started hunting livestock and quickly became the most persecuted
and misunderstood animal in the world. The North American natives have
always held a different attitude toward wolves, viewing them as thinking
beings that possess souls. Which view of the wolf is true? Like human
nature, the nature of the wolf is not easily understood. Are they
ferocious or friendly? What is their role in the ecosystem? Why do we fear
them? Why do we need them? The 1995 reintroduction of Canis lupus to
Yellowstone National Park has prompted many people to rethink how they
feel about wolves. “Breathtaking in scope and execution.”-Los Angeles Times |
